The Systemic Constellation Process: What to Expect in Constellation Work

An Embodied Journey Into Your System

Systemic Constellations are not traditional talk practices—they are an embodied approach that allows the hidden dynamics of your system to reveal themselves. Whether exploring your family lineage, organizational patterns, or relational dynamics, this constellation work makes the invisible visible, and what has been silenced finds its voice.

The Sacred Container

Our circles are grounded in the principles of healing in community. For thousands of years, humans have gathered to witness and honor each other’s truth. In this space, we continue that ancient tradition, creating a container where the past can be acknowledged and the future can shift.

Each circle includes ritual and reflection time, honoring both the gravity of the work and the sacredness of what emerges.

How Systemic Constellations Work

During a constellation, we create a living map of your system. Representatives are chosen to embody family members, organizational roles, or significant relationships, allowing the hidden architecture of your system to become visible in the room.

What makes constellation work so powerful is that representatives often experience thoughts, feelings, and sensations that belong to the actual people or elements they’re representing—revealing truths that the issue holder may not have consciously known.

As the systemic constellation unfolds, we let the system reveal itself. Movements happen. Words emerge. Hidden loyalties are honored. Forgotten contributions are acknowledged. And slowly, what was entangled begins to untangle.

The Three Roles in Constellation Work

Issue Holder in Constellation Work

You bring a question, struggle, or pattern you’d like to explore through systemic constellation work. This could be related to your family system, your leadership challenges, your organization, or your relational world. Together with the facilitator, you share the factual information about your system—the tragedies, traumas, difficult destinies, and events that have shaped it. You then choose representatives from the circle to stand in for family members, organizational roles, or system elements, and witness as the hidden dynamics reveal themselves.

Witness in Systemic Constellations

You hold space for the issue holder’s journey while remaining present to your own inner experience. Being a witness is its own profound practice—often what emerges in someone else’s constellation illuminates something in your own system, whether familial or organizational. You are part of the field that makes healing possible.

Representative in Constellation Work

When chosen by an issue holder, you stand in for a family member, organizational role, or significant relationship. You may experience emotions, sensations, or impulses that don’t feel like “yours”—and yet they reveal something true about the system. Serving as a representative is a deeply embodied experience that often brings unexpected insights and healing.

The Flow of a Systemic Constellation Workshop

Opening

We begin by acknowledging our presence together, agreeing to confidentiality, and grounding ourselves in the space.

Embodied Ritual

A guided experience helps us connect with ourselves, our own lineage, and each other, preparing us to work together.

The Constellations

An issue holder is selected. The constellation facilitator gathers information about the system, including significant events, losses, exclusions, and traumas. With guidance, the issue holder invites circle members to represent people or elements in their system, who then stand inside the circle.

Revealing and Resolving Through Constellation Work

As representatives share what they’re experiencing, the hidden system dynamics begin to surface. Through careful facilitation, statements are spoken and movements are made that create more order in the system and allow love and respect to flow. We honor what was silenced, acknowledge what was excluded, and allow each person or element in the system to find their rightful place.

Integration

Time for reflection and grounding as the constellation settles.

Closing Ceremony

We complete the circle with ritual, honoring what has been witnessed and released.

What Makes Systemic Constellation Work Transformative

Most people are familiar with the concept of epigenetics and inherited family trauma. Systemic constellation work takes this understanding deeper—revealing not just that we carry these generational patterns, but how they live in us and what they’re asking from us.

When we can see the hidden loyalties we’ve been living out through constellation work-whether in our families or our organizations-the grief we’ve been carrying for someone else, the exclusion that created a void in our system, we can finally choose differently. We can untangle ourselves from cycles that are not ours and reclaim our full, expressed life.

The result of systemic constellation work is not just intellectual understanding, but a felt shift. A loosening. A sense of freedom and peace that allows you to move forward unburdened by what belonged to those who came before you or patterns that no longer serve your system.

The Gift of Community Healing Through Constellation Work

What happens in a constellation circle doesn’t just heal the issue holder—it ripples through everyone present. When we witness someone else’s system come into order, something in our own system shifts. When we serve as representatives in constellation work, we often receive exactly what we need for our own healing.

This is the power of healing in community through systemic constellations. We hold each other. We witness each other. We honor the truth of what is. And we create the conditions for healing that system.

Frequently Asked Questions About Systemic Constellations

What are systemic constellations?

Systemic constellations (which include family constellations) is an embodied transformative approach that reveals hidden dynamics within systems—whether family, organizational, or relational—to heal generational trauma, inherited patterns, and systemic entanglements.

What are family constellations?

Family constellations are a specific application of systemic constellation work that focuses on family lineage and belonging. This work explores how familial relationships, both past and present, shape our emotional well-being and life patterns.

Who developed systemic constellations?

Systemic constellation work was developed by Bert Hellinger in the 20th century, based on understanding how relationships within systems shape our emotional well-being and life patterns.

How do constellations differ from traditional practices?

Unlike talk-based practices, systemic constellation work is an embodied, experiential approach that uses representatives to make system dynamics visible and allow healing to occur through the group field.

What can systemic constellations help with?

Constellation work can help resolve relationship issues, release generational trauma, heal family dynamics, understand organizational patterns, clarify leadership challenges, release inherited patterns, find greater peace, and address longstanding personal or career challenges rooted in system dynamics.

Can systemic constellations work for organizations?

Yes. While family constellations focus on lineage, systemic constellations can explore any tightly bonded system including organizations, leadership teams, and business relationships.
